𝕰𝖈𝖍𝖔𝖊𝖘, Chinabot’s first release with Morgan Sully of Memeshift, takes us from Borneo to Berlin, collapsing decades and continents through electronic experimentation and personal recordings. Through the process, he asks if it is possible to reconfigure a cohesive sense of home from the diverse elements of a diasporic experience.

This night will celebrate the release of his album, featuring artists from Chinabot including Neo Geodesia, Pisitakun, Jaeho Hwang, Chooc Ly with local legend Marylou joining in support

Chinabot is a platform and collective created to change the dialogue surrounding Asian music championing the global movement of adventurous music from the asian diaspora.  Chinabot incorporates a record label, event promoter and radio programme.

Started in 2017, the multi-disciplinary label and network of Asian artists decided to cooperate on a new way to collect and promote exciting Asian music. Releasing undiscovered artists from Bahrain to Thailand, Chinabot is positioned at the junction point between the influence of Asian music on contemporary/traditional sounds, music outside the mainstream and the development of experimentation. Whether it’s Jazz folk music, experimental ambient or mutant techno, we celebrate exciting new music that falls between the gaps — a place for adventurous listening.

Memeshift

@memeshift – live

Morgan’s music is heavily electronic with echoes of noise, IDM and rave. His recent influences invoke the music of his matrilineal roots from southeast Asia, proposing music that’s noisy, playful and magical.  Previously, Morgan co-curated Soy&synth, an experimental concert series with Indonesian collective Soydivision, co-releasing much of the output on their sister label L-KW alongside Midnight Shift.  Morgan is also initiator of Latent Sonorities which produced an open source sample pack and tuning files of local Javanese gamelan instruments. Its public co-release with Yogyakarta’s Yes No Wave was accompanied by a concert series, DAW tools, live-recorded album and guide for other artists and researchers working to expand our sonic imaginaries.
