Lena Willikens, has a passion for records and is always on the hunt for elusive bits of music, but as an artist, her work doesn’t hinge on any one track, or even a handful of tracks. She’s after something bigger, something that’s truly transportive for those on the dance-floor, and the tracks she plays – whether they’re bizarre slices of synth exploration, some ominously churning porto-industrial stomp or something else that simply defies classification – are all parts of a larger, more psychically satisfying whole.
Ece Özel, an Istanbul-based DJ, comes from a place where everything collides in the worst and best way, and confusion comes with a price – it’s either a bigger confusion or a huge relief. Her approach towards selection stems from this exact notion. Growing up in the city’s vibrant punk scene and being acquainted with electronic music afterward had significant effects on her style. Expect to be carried away with transitions between styles, tempo, rhythm, and mood when she’s behind the decks. Ece Özel’s sets are known for their eclectic mix and dynamic shifts, reflecting the diverse cultural and musical influences of her hometown. Welcome again, our dancefloor royals, to the queerdom of Royal Highness! Prepare to laugh, dance, and revel in absurdity with us one more time.
When you are lost in the late afternoon hours of Sunday thinking where to dance to end the weekend or which after hours you should attend, we warmly welcome all dancing queers and queens for a day time dance marathon.
As promised, Royal Highness will not aim for a safe sound, but more for an intentional cacophony: fast transitions, unconventional sounds, stimulating vocals, bleeps, crunches, provoking samples and hypnotising drums.
